Why you should support the buy local initiative:
We’ve all seen the “Buy Local” signs popping up around Blair County. Most of us know it’s a good idea to buy local, but do we really understand how crucial of a difference our buying habits can make?
Advances in technology and easy travel have made products outside of our area easily accessible. It’s exciting and convenient to have so much at our finger tips. But the fact is these new buying habits have begun to negatively impact our local economy. This decrease in local spending leads to less demand for products and services, less need for employees and ultimately less potential for earned income. With less jobs and lower income the result will be a community that becomes poorer.
Buy Here. Live Here. is an initiative of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce to make people aware of these new trends and how they affect not just our economy, but our standard of living. It’s more than just about spending. It’s a way of life.
Buy Here. Live Here. is not about spending more, it’s about slightly, consciously adjusting our buying habits. If we all make an effort to take just 10% of what we’ve been buying outside of Blair County and spend it locally, we will make a significant impact. As a concerned community member it’s important you become involved.
